Spotlight: Cornwall
Sam Morris, The FASD Trust Co-ordinator for Cornwall & Devon writes:
"Here in Cornwall there was a real lack of awareness of FASD. Together with Julia and Simon of The FASD Trust, we set up The FASD Trust Cornwall Support Group for anyone affected by FASD.
At the time I only knew of my daughter and one other family, but at our first group four families attended. We have new famillies coming foward needing support all the time and our group is ever growing. I see new famillies come to our group looking so despondent but who leave with smiles and hope. Just knowing you aren't alone can really help.
Outside of the group meetings some of us meet up and the rest of us keep in touch with each other via email and phone.
Myself and another group member have been canvassing Health Centres, Children's Centres and hospitals in the area and most have agreed to put up displays of posters and leaftlets for us.
We are also making contact with other local voluntary, charity and statutory groups to let them know about our group so that others who are affected can come along to our meetings and receive support from The FASD Trust."
The Cornwall group meets next on Saturday 25th July at the Zoo in Newquay. If you wish to attend the trip to the Zoo, please e-mail Sam at cornwall@fasdtrust.co.uk.
We have also other families from all over the UK attending this trip to the Zoo and also staying for the FIRST of many FASD Trust Holidays. We do not have many places left, but if you would like to attend, please contact The FASD Trust office.
