As part of the celebrations to mark the 60th Birthday of the NHS, we held a joint NHS / FASD Trust event looking at the issue of FASD and how we can improve support to those affected.
Our sincere thanks to all those whose hard work went into organising this, especially Rachel, our Sussex Co-ordinator. Almost 120 people attended the day from all sectors of the NHS and other related statutory authorities, including education.
The main aim and objective of this day was to look at how we can improve support to those affected and also the issue of prevention.
The Head of Children's Services Chaired the day. The local lead Community Paediatrician presented an excellent overview of FASD from a medical perspective. Then Julia Brown, our Executive Officer, gave a presentation from a parent's perspective, as well as outlining the work of The FASD Trust, with particular reference to the support it is offering to affected families.
A local steering group will now be established with the remit to continue to improve the support offered to local families affected by FASD. Anyone who attended the day or who lives in Sussex and would like to be part of this Steering Group, please contact us.
