Support Groups - 2013 Schedule

To see if there is a support group in your area, check out the full listing below and if there is not one in your area, please get in touch with us discuss how we may support you. Sarah, our Family Support Manager, can be contacted via familysupport@fasdtrust.co.uk.

There's a new way for everyone, and for our Support Group members in particular, to help in fund-raising; bring along unwanted CDs and DVDs in good condition to Support Group meetings or, if you live in the Oxfordshire area, to the FASD Trust office. Visit our updated Donations and Fund-raising page to learn how we can raise funds in this way, in collaboration with musicMagpie.

Unless otherwise stated, all group events start at 11am and finish around 1pm. The whole family, including non-affected siblings, are welcome, and activities are provided for the children, though of course they remain the responsibility of their parents/guardians at all times. The events are free but donations on the day are always welcome, to help to cover costs of refreshments/travel expenses etc. And do consider becoming a Friend of the Trust; that's a great way for us all to help one another!

Yorkshire

Lisa, Guthrie, our Co-ordinator for the Yorkshire Support Group, is  a teacher in a secondary school, and with that background is also an invaluable part of our Education Support Team (she wrote the Teachers Guide booklet) .

At our most recent Group event (2nd February), the children had a wonderful time sticking "googley" eyes onto felt people shapes, drawing what they wanted to be when they grow up, while the adults talked about "Growing up with FASD".  The children then enjoyed playing together and having their faces painted, while their parents & carers chatted over coffee and chocolate biscuits.

The group next meets on   Saturday, 4th May 2013 (10.30am to 12.30pm), when Lisa will lead a session, with activities for the whole family, on the topic of "FASD and Sensory Issues". Location is as for the Group's previous meetings, namely West Grange Church in south Leeds.  PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING.

The August meeting is going to be a picnic in the park in Roundhay Park meeting starting at 11am; more details will be given nearer the event.

Click here for a poster for the above events.   Lisa can be contacted at yorkshire@fasdtrust.co.uk.
