9th September - International FAS Day

9th September:  International FASD Day --

9th September = 9th day of the 9th month = 9 months of pregnancy when it is advised that alcohol is avoided.

This year we held an event in Oxford which was chaired by one of our Trustees, Dr Sri Gada, Consultant Paediatrician, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.   We were delighted to welcome our main speaker, Dr Raja Mukherjee, generally regarded at the UK leading medic on FASD, along with Mrs Gloria Armistead - Founder of FAS Aware UK, a number of our carers and young people. as well as Julia Brown, our Executive Officer.

We were delighted to welcome, amongst others, the following organisations to our Exhibition Area:

Thomley Hall Activity Centre
Positive Parenting
Hope UK
Usborne Books
Wise Wheels

During the lunch break we released balloons to mark the babies born last year in the UK with FASD.

Please mark 9th September 2009 in your diaries NOW and look out in the New Year of details of our events next year to mark International FASD Day once more here in the UK.
